R.I.P. Nate Dogg

"It's a sad, sad day."

Those were the first words I heard as I got into the office this morning and I couldn't agree more. Nate Dogg, real name Nathaniel Hale, has passed away at the age of 41. He had a stroke back in 2008 and has battled several health issues for quite some time. The actual cause of his death has not been released. I basically remember Nate Dogg for singing pretty much every hook on every song when I was a kid. Regulators was is a classic and there are many more to name. He's been out of the music spotlight for quite some time but this is still a major loss. Much love to his family and friends.

Happy B.I.G. Day

Today marks 13 years since the slaying of the greatest rapper of all-time, Notorious B.I.G. It's pretty hard to believe that it's been so long but I can still remember what I was doing when I heard the news. Even though he seemed to predict it in some of his music, B.I.G.'s passing was both shocking and untimely. Although he lived such a short life, his music is still as relevant and dope today as it was back then. Here are a few of my favorite B.I.G. videos and my favorite Mister Cee freestyle. R.I.P. Gaines Adams

Chicago Bears defensive end Gaines Adams passed away this morning at the age of 26. After an accomplished collegiate career at Clemson, Adams was drafted by the Buccaneers with the fourth overall pick in the 2007 draft. He was then traded to the Chicago Bears on October 19, 2009. An autopsy revealed that Adams suffered from an enlarged heart which led to cardiac arrest. His family members were unaware that he suffered from any serious medical conditions. His death was sudden and tragic and my prayers go out to his family. Not only was Gaines Adams a good football player, but he was a good person on and off the field. He's most famous for this play against Wake Forest back during his time at Clemson.

R.I.P. Chris Henry

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry passed away this morning a day after falling from truck following an argument with his fiance. The situation is really messed up especially after Henry was turning his troubled life around since his rough 2007 season. Henry was given a second chance by the Bengals and seemed to have positively taken advantage of the opportunity. He even got the word "Blessed" tattooed on his neck before the 2009 season.

In a preseason interview with the Associated Press Henry was quoted as saying, "I kind of felt like I dug myself out of the hole and started doing the right things. People say, 'How you feeling now Chris? You doing all right?' I just tell them I'm blessed. That's why I got it."

He was 26.

R.I.P. Michael Jackson

Rough day.

We lost one of music's living legends yesterday. His death has taken awhile to actually sink in, but Michael Jackson will be remembered across the world for creating about 40 years worth of classic music. He was arguably the biggest and most influential musician of all time and will be sorely missed. My favorite MJ joints ever are Billie Jean, Thriller, Rock With You, Don't Stop Til You Get Enough and Smooth Criminal. His discography is unrivaled in music. I could go on forever saying all the ways he impacted the world but I'll just end it here. Rest in Peace, Mike.

Damn, So It's Really Been 15 Years...

I can barely even remember what I was doing in 1994. I was probably watching Power Rangers, going to kindergarten and eating mad apple sauce. This was years before I got deep into music but it was also the same year that Nirvana front-man Kurt Cobain committed suicide. To put this into context, Nirvana was the shit in the early 90's. The band made hit after hit in a genre of music that they pretty much created. This would be the same as if someone like Lil Wayne committed suicide like two years after the Carter II; someone at the top of music just ending it. Bad example, but you get the idea because Nirvana dropped it's classic album In Utero in 1993 and Nevermind, which served as pretty much a Greatest Hits collection, two years earlier in 1991. Cobain struggled with a number of drugs during his last few years and it even showed through some of his music. [Something In The Way.] He committed suicide fifteen years ago on April 5, 1994 in his home in Seattle, Washington. I'm a really big Nirvana fan and you might be too if you've played Rock Band One> or Two. Really great music. Ow.
