It's crazy what you find on the internet. This morning I came across these early videos of a young Dave Chappelle getting started in the comedy business. It's wild to see how far he's gotten with his craft. The first set of videos was from an old performance on Caroline's on Broadway back in 1990. The second group come from a 1993 appearance on Comic Justice. What a difference three years makes. Still funny as shit nonetheless:
No disrespect to some of the all-time greats [Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Bernie Mac, Richard Pryor] but I really feel like Dave Chappelle might be the best to ever do stand up. Not just my favorite but the BEST. I know that Delirious and Raw are considered two of the funniest shows in history, but damn, I wasn't even alive when Delirious dropped and Raw came out a month after my first birthday. This dude Dave just had two things that the others didn't: Relatability and Timing. I'm just sayin, watch Killin' Em Softy and For What It's Worth and try to tell me it's not some of the funniest shit ever.
In case you don't have the DVD, Killin' Em Softly in its entirety...
Ever since the Lost Episodes of Chappelle's Show, mad people have wondered where Dave Chappelle has been. I just might have the answer. This video isn't new but it's from an appearance Chappelle paid to MTV UK's Kojo's Comedy Funhouse. It's basically a show that features different stand-up acts. He's as funny as ever. Even in London.
Haha @ 7:12: "They got my gun...but they ain't get these rocks niggaaaaa...."
