J. Cole - Work Out [MP3]

Aight, so here's the next single from J.Cole's upcoming album. It's called Work Out and samples a soundbyte from Kanye's Workout Plan and even a line from an old Paula Abdul song. With all that being said, I'm not completely sold on the dopeness of this track. I need more heat to get me hype about the album. [i.e. Big Sean] Oh well, still gotta post the new shit.

J. Cole - Work Out

I'm looking for THIS from J. Cole. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Late Pass: Mac Miller is Dope

So apparently I was sleeping on Mac Miller when I first heard of him last year. His music was straight but just not really polished. But when I stumbled across his new K.I.D.S. mixtape, I could tell he'd improved...a lot. Like a whole lot. It's not mind-blowing, life-changing music, but it's dope to ride to. [As cliché as that sounds.] Being only 18, you wouldn't really expect the dopeness of this mixtape. Still not sure what you're in store for?? Think Mike Posner - the wackness x Wiz Khalifa x Asher Rosh - sounding like Eminem = Mac Miller. And the videos are pretty dope. Check out these from Mac Miller:

Traffic in the Sky // Don't Mind If I Do
Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza
Nikes on my Feet

La La La La

Download the K.I.D.S. mixtape here.

And put your thumbs up.

Don't Sleep.

Yup.

Summer Songs: Sublime - Caress Me Down

Aight. Summer Song #4 and it's another joint from arguably one of my favorite bands of all time, Sublime. This is one of their lesser-played songs, but it's still a summer classic in my book. It's off of the band's self-titled 1996 album and the song is called Caress Me Down. Classic Sublime shit.

Damn, I just realized........summer's almost over.

Summer Songs: Jadakiss feat. Kanye West - Gettin It In [2004]

More Summer songs. This one really doesn't have anything to do with summer but it pairs up two of my favorite rappers and I've been listening to it most of the summer. It's a collab from Jadakiss and Kanye West off of Kiss' 2004 album Kiss of Death entitled Gettin It In. Off the top of my head, it's one of my favorite funny verses from Kanye. Check it out:

We need more collabs like this.

Oh yea, and Good Ass Job.

Summer Songs: Kid Cudi x Bethany Cosentino x Rostam Batmanglij - All Summer

New Cudder. [I STILL never get tired of saying that.] This is a promotional joint from Converse, of all companies. And it's dope as shit. It features vocals from Bethany Cosentino, one half of the duo Best Coast and drums from Rostam Batmanglij from Vampire Weekend. The title says enough about it being the perfect summer song but after one listen I could tell it'll be in my heavy rotation all the way through September. Well done, Converse.

[Note: Shouts to Jai and LMo from The Clearance Aisle for the heads up. Check their blog, it's the shit.]

Damn, So Summer's REALLY Over...

So I figured I'd post one last song about the summer. Death Cab for Cutie has had some really good songs but my absolute favorite is Summer Skin. It's actually about a relationship that lasts for the summer but when Labor Day comes....it's wrap city. This is a fan-made video but it's still pretty good. Auggh.

Summer's Pretty Much a WRAP...

So I might as well post one last summer song. If you grew up rockin the burbs like me, you should remember this joint from middle school. This group Len was pretty much the definition of a one hit wonder but this joint used to rock. Oww.

Was I the only one that was feeling this song back then???

Music of the Moment - September 10, 2008

My man
Kanye.
Does.
It.
Again.
Damn.

Hopefully you caught some of the VMAs the other night on MTV. Normally, I could care less that the VMAs are on but when I got wind that Kanye would be performing a new joint as a finale to the show, I knew I couldn't miss it. Let's just say he didn't fucking disappoint. Check out Love Lockdown. I'm guessing it will be on his next album, 808s & Heartbreak, due out in December.
[Note: This is also a strong candidate for Song of the Summer. Yup.]

[Note Part Two: I originally had the Live version posted, this is the CD quality version. Enjoy. (Sept.14)]

Music of the Moment - August 23, 2008 [Part Two]

OK. So it was definitely worth having two Music of the Moment posts today. When I started looking for the Tracklist for T.I.'s Paper Trail, the joint "Swagger Like Us" immediately caught my eye. My candidate for Song of the Summer. It's Kanye, Jay-Z, Lil Wanye and T.I. on the same joint.

Epic to say the least.

[Note: Great use of the M.I.A. sample too. Paper Trail is gonna be tough.]
