J.Cole will be in town tonight performing at The Loft [Center Stage.] If you're in Atlanta, don't tweak. For a sample of what he might do tonight, check his freestyle for the XXL's 2010 Freshman list:
Well...it's not exactly Chris Tucker but some genius used a Chris Tucker soundboard to get a laugh out of a Pizza Hut employee. Of course hilarity ensued.
For a list of Chris Tucker soundboards to use, check here. I'm definitely thinking about prank calling someone, 2002 style.
Wow, I didn't see this one coming. Pause but I'm talking about this dunk from Antawn Jamison. I really didn't expect this dunk from him and apparently neither was David West. Check it out:
Since he ditched this year's Grammy Awards, we haven't heard much from Kanye West. Until today, that is. He's recently been in the studio working on his much-anticipated fifth studio album. I'm positive it's going to be dope, just like all of his others and Drake has also been quoted as saying it will be "one of the best hip-hop albums in the last 10 years." I'm not mad. This video, however, is the latest from 808s & Heartbreak, entitled Coldest Winter. Definitely one of my favorite tracks from the album even if it was damn near straight from the Tears for Fears joint Memories Fade. Shit's still kawld. Peep:
Can't be mad at new Kanye. The new album is about to be the major unjealous.
A day after LaDainian Tomlinson was released from the Chargers, veteran Eagles running back Brian Westbrook has been cut by his longtime team. I'm not sure what his future is going to look like but I'm sure he'll find another team. It's kind of crazy that two of the league's best running backs over the last decade are both looking for new teams. Best luck to Brian Westbrook.
[Note: Bears front office...Do something. I'm SAYIN.]
When news broke yesterday that the San Diego Chargers had released LaDainian Tomlinson, I wasn't really surprised...mainly because he said it would happen weeks ago. The reasons he was traded are obvious, he was owed a $2 million roster bonus and $5 million in total salary next year after career lows in both total yards [730] and yards per carry [3.3]. Yikes. The only real question left to be answered is "Where will LT go next??" So where could he go:
New England Patriots
Even though the rich would pretty much be getting richer, LT would make sense as a 10-15 down back in an offense that already is full of weapons. He could team up well with Brady and Moss and Belichick has been good at working with veterans.
Chicago Bears
This one hasn't really been reported [at all] but I would love to see it happen. Tomlinson could draw the attention needed to take pressure off of Jay Cutler. In addition to Mike Martz as the OC, LT could be a great teacher for Matt Forte, Kahlil Bell and Adrian Peterson, all promising backs.
Philadelphia Eagles
I can really see this move happening. Even though the Eagles won't give him the entire $5 mil he's expecting, they would be able to make a pretty good offer to LT. Add him to the young talent at running back in McCoy and experience in veteran Brian Westbrook, and you could have a pretty deep backfield. Only problem is Tomlinson + Westbrook = this.
[Update: Brian Westbrook has also been released. Yikes.]
New Orleans Saints
My final possible destination for LT is the New Orleans Saints. He played earlier in his career with current Saints quarterback Drew Brees and it would land him with a definite championship contender. Plus, with the depth that New Orleans has at the position Tomlinson wouldn't be forced to carry the most of the load at running back.
What ever happens for LT, he is sure to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer and definitely remembered as one of the best running backs in league history. Not only that, but he has a been a hard-working class act since he came in the league. Gotta wish LT the best.
FREE Pancakes. Sounds like the unjealous to me. "Where," you ask. IHOP. They do this once a year as a fundraiser for the Children's Miracle Network that earns money for children's hospitals. So yea, grab a free short stack and support sick children all at once.
Even though Vampire Weekend dropped Contra back in January, I just got around to copping it. I mean, I downloaded acquired it back when it came out, but thanks to Best Buy gift cards, I bought it yesterday. With that being said, my boy @martEMCfly put me on to the band's new video for the single Giving Up the Gun. It has appearances by RZA from Wu-Tang, Jake Gyllenhaal, Lil Jon and Joe Jonas. Pretty crazy celeb line-up. Check out the video and download link below:
Yea...I got another Late Pass coming. This one's not completely my fault but it demonstrates why Nike is one of my favorite companies. One of their latest commercials, entitled Human Chain, is one of the dopest commercials I've seen in a long time. I missed out on it because I don't watch much tv...besides ESPN, Seifeld and The Colbert Report. Kind of ironic, huh? My boy @MrDuckworth87 told me about this joint last week but I'm just now getting around to posting it. Oh well, the commercial is dope. It has appearances from Oscar Pistorius, Sergio Aguero, Deron Williams, Maria Sharapova, Mike Spinner, Rampage Jackson, LaDainian Tomlinson and Lance Armstrong. Wide range of athletes for a broad reaching advertisement. Nike can do no wrong.
Oh yea, and the soundtrack is Ali in the Jungle by the Hours. It was also on the FIFA 08 soundtrack. ROCKIN too.
So yea, the blog is back from a brief hiatus. Again. Work, as well as searching for a a new job, has really kept me busy lately. All-Star Weekend was cool and all [I guess] but after the lackluster Dunk Contest, I deemed the whole weekend pretty much as non-blogworthy. With that being said, yesterday's thrashing of the Knicks has been the best basketball news I've seen in more than a week. D.Rose balled, like always, with 29 and 6. Check the recap:
Also hot on the Bulls scene are rumors that we might trade for Tracy McGrady. We're a day away from the NBA trade deadline and I'm not 100% on how I feel about this trade. If this was five years ago and we're talking about getting Tracy McGrady, I might be hype but it's not. T-Mac has been one of the disappointments in the league over the last few years and we'll probably be giving up Tyrus and Kirk Hinrich for him. Eh. I'm also pretty partial to Tyrus because of his affiliation to LSU. We really loafed on getting Amare and Bosh so T-Mac might be the best we can get at this point. Hey, maybe a trade to Chicago is what McGrady needs to rejuvenate his career. If we do decide to trade for him, let's at least hope there's more of this:
Kings of Leon have honestly been around since around 1999 but they're really just recently getting the recognition they deserve. They did take home three Grammys last month though. With that being said, their second studio album, Aha Shake Heartbreak is the complete and utter unjealous. I didn't really hear about KOL until I heard Because of the Times so I did some searching and came to find that Aha Shake was just as good. It was even named by Rolling Stone as one of the Top 100 Albums of the Last Decade. Pretty beastly for a fairly unknown album. Here are my favorite two songs from the album, Taper Jean Girl and Rememo. Taper Jean Girl was even featured in Cloverfield, Entourage and the Shia LeBeouf joint Disturbia. Check the link. [Dope movie, btw] So yea, download these songs below and check the album out. It's good for new and old fans of Kings of Leon.
Yesterday my man Stew aka @TheUNjealous shot me a link for a really dope video on Vimeo. I'm still not sure what it is but I am sure that it's one of the most visually stimulating joints I've seen in a long time. The video was produced by Scream Park out of Paris and it's definitely the unjealous. Check out Splitting the Atom from Scream Park:
Finally, a video for David Guetta and Kid Cudi's new joint Memories. It's pretty much just a Cudi track over Guetta's beat but it's still dope. Can't be mad at that.
Semi-Late Pass with this one but whatever. I'm still Mac-less and it's really getting to me. PC's are just NOT the deal. With that being said, two new Wale videos have surfaced and they're both dope. Tabi Bonney [Yea, that Tabi Bonney] even directed the second one. Good thing he's not rappin anymore...they threw him out the POCKET!! Shouts to @BeigeHAZE for the heads up on these joints. Check the videos for Pretty Girls and My Sweetie:
Pretty Girls feat. Gucci Mane and Weensey
My Sweetie [Spray It]
My name asamp, you prolly know me from the you know.
Due to driving from Baton Rouge to Atlanta and being without a computer for the ride, I missed posting on the biggest sports and music day of 2010. The Jealous. Speaking on the Super Bowl: asamp was right wrong. I'm not even upset because the Colts aren't my team, I'm just more surprised. Congrats to the Saints and their fans though. Drew Brees played his ass off and the defense held Peyton to a lot less than I expected. Good shit. And not only that, but this year's Super Bowl was the most watched television program....EVER. Yes, EVER. More people watched the Saints beat the Colts than the finale of For the Love of Ray-J. I know, hard to believe. But something that's not hard to believe is that Drew Brees is about to get PAID. Respect.
On the music tip: Jets. Smokee Robinson finally dropped. Oh, and it's dope as hell. Spitta did not disappoint with this one. Early favorites are Lemon Kush over Gucci's Lemonade and Vision over Kanye's Last Call. Shouts to @jus_huong for the DL link.
So yea, I'm still in Baton Rouge but I'll be damned if I don't make it back to Atlanta by kickoff. It's no real surprise but I'm going with Indy on this one. Peyton's been here before and even though he's only won one ship before this year, a win here could claim him the spot as the best quarterback of all-time. Dwight Freeney's probably not as hurt as we all think and I'm not confident in New Orleans' ability to stop the Indianapolis offense. Not to mention, my Bears are nowhere near the Super Bowl so I guess Indy's the best choice. Plus...they have a black head coach. Sorry Reggie, sorry Kim, sorry...Breesus??
Final Score: New Orleans - 28 // Indianapolis - 42 Peyton bout to be Miami chillin, Super Bowl chillin.
Since we're less than 24 hours from the release of Curren$y's latest mixtape, here are some videos to curb you until you can download Smokey Robinson. Ariiiiite.
Yesterday, Kei from GovernedByLoyalty.com put me on to the new joint from Mach Five, Mums FP and Jason Caesar, Vicodin & Violins. It's always good to hear new shit from Mums and this was also a good intro to Mach Five for me. This joint is off of their latest project, Playground : A Compilation Vol. 1, available here. Definitely worth a listen. While you're at it, follow Mums FP and A.ware from Mach Five on Twitter. Check out Vicodin & Violins:
First off, Fanboys is funny as hell. Point blank. If you've ever laughed at one of the other movies I've recommended, or even if you haven't, you still need to check this out. It's set in 1998 about a group of five friends and their quest to see Star Wars Episode 1: The Attack of the Phantom Menace. Does that sound nerdy enough for you?? The thing is, the movie's not set for release for another six months and one of the Fanboys is battling with cancer. So what do they do? Wait six months and go see it as friends?? Hell no. They decide to go through with something they've planned since middle school: break into Skywalker Ranch and steal a rough cut of the movie. Gangsta. The movie stars Sam Huntington [Not Another Teen Movie], Jay Baruchel [Knocked Up/Tropic Thunder] and the snooks of all snooks, Kristen Bell [Forgetting Sarah Marshall]. Just an overall surprisingly hilarious movie with cameos from Seth Rogen [two roles], Craig Robinson, Danny McBride, Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith and Will Forte. Just those names alone make it worth it. But don't take my word for it, check out this scene with one of Seth Rogen's cameos:
Yea, it's true. Seth Rogen has been in every comedy produced since 2004. And I'm not mad.
Now on to Fifty Pills. This movie is about a college student that, upon returning to school from a terrible trip visiting home, finds out that his roommate threw a crazy party while he was away. The party was so crazy that he ended up losing his scholarship and is on the verge of having to quit school. His only hope in raising the money for tuition in time is selling the fifty pills of ecstasy that his asshole of a roommate gave him. It's starring relatively unknown actor Lou Taylor Pucci [Believe it or not, he was in Fanboys] and once again, the snooks, KRISTEN BELL. Another hilarious movie with cameos from Michael Peña [Crash/Lions for Lambs], Donnell Rawlings [Chappelle's Show] and Eddie Kaye Thomas [Finch from American Pie.] Check out this scene with Donnell Rawlings and Eddie Kaye Thomas. Pure comedy:
Don't sleep on Fanboys and Fifty Pills on some of those College Football-less Saturday afternoons. Plus, Kristen Bell is in both of em.
Chapter One: The Worst Way to Defend a Dunk/Lay-Up
Ever had the dream of making it into the Sportscenter Top 10?? Since completing an alley-oop, shooting a game-winner and sinking 12 threes are so difficult to do, I recommend unsuccessfully defending a dunk or lay-up. It's fun AND easy! Just follow these steps:
1. First thing you have to do it get one of your teammates to turn the ball over. 2. Next, make sure that none of your teammates come past half court to play defense. [They might actually stop the other team from scoring!] 3. The next thing you need to do is use timing to ensure a midair confrontation with the offensive player. [See Lebron James1.] 4. Make a failed attempt to block the dunk or lay-up. [See Lebron James2.]
And that's it. If you follow these steps you should be guaranteed a spot on the Sportscenter Top 10. For proof, just look at mine from today:
Been away from the blog for a minute so I figured it's time to get back at it. If you've read this blog before, you might know that I'm a pretty big fan of cover versions of songs and this is one of my favorites. Everybody knows the Luther Vandross song Superstar, but that wasn't even the original version. The original was done by Delanie and Bonnie back in 1969, then done by the Carpenters in 1971 and Luther in 1983 before this version was done in 1994 by the bad Sonic Youth. Pretty different from the original but still dope nonetheless. It was even used in the trailer for the scary as fuck scary movie High Tension and it was used in the movie Juno...for what it's worth. Check it out:
Sonic Youth - Superstar [Cover]
Download: Superstar Pretty unique twist to a classic. And I'm back on this blogging shit.
