Got Damn, Jodie Meeks

Big game jitters?? Hell naw. This fool Jodie Meeks from Kentucky's basketball team fucking BALLED last night against school rival Tennessee. Now when I say he balled, he BALLED. With his previous high being 46 that he scored against Appalachain State he went off for a school-record 54 points, breaking Dan Issel's 39-year-old record. And this wasn't off of dunks and put-backs. This was off five jumpers, 11 threes and 14/14 freethrows. Didn't I say he BALLED??! He probably won't win, but I'm sure this puts him in the conversation for National Player of the Year. Yes, I said it.

Check the facts:

• No player has scored 54 in regulation in the last decade,
• No player from a BCS school has scored this many points since Eddie House put up 61 in 2000. (But that was in OT.)
• This was a college game which is shorter than an NBA game with a longer shot clock which leads to less possessions for each team. Once again, he BALLED.

[Note: Is anybody else wondering about what Lebron's 1.18.09 announcement will be?? I just hope it's not rapping. We've all seen how that can turn out...it's not pretty.]

Oklahoma, You Lose

Tim Tebow, I mean Florida, beats Oklahoma for their second National Championship in the last three years. Saw this one coming. I mean, come on.

Finally...The National Championship

It really didn't take me too long to make my pick for the game. I'm going with Florida for a number of reasons:

• First off, Tim Tebow.

Love him, hate him, but you have to respect him. I was one of the people clowning him for that rant after the Ole Miss loss but he delivered on his vow to be the hardest working player on the hardest working team in the country.

• The addition of Percy Harvin and the loss of DeMarco Murry

Percy Harvin is possibly the most dangerous offensive threat in college football and even though Florida was able to beat Florida without him, it can't hurt to have him. Now that he's 95% healthy, I'm sure that an overrated Oklahoma defense will have trouble keeping tabs on him. As far as Murry, Oklahoma has a stable of quality running backs that they could plug in his place. It's going to be on kickoff returns, where he is averaging 28 yards per return, where the Sooners will suffer.

• SEC Loyalty

I'm a huge LSU fan so even rooting for Florida feels pretty weird, but it's the right thing to do. Outside of just being loyal to the conference, having a rough and challenging schedule really prepares you for games like the National Championship. Not saying the Big 12 is weak (it's not the Big 10!) but top to bottom, the SEC does well in games of this magnitude. An SEC team has won four of the last ten BCS National Championships and this game will be the fifth.

• And finally, this Guy

I didn't want to say his name, but Oklahoma defensive back Dominique Franks is dumb as shit. When reporters asked where Tebow would rank as a quarterback in the Big 12, he said fourth. Behind Bradford, Colt McCoy and Graham Harrell. He also said Tebow was ugly and he can't read good. Nah, he didn't but that was dumb as hell. Nobody even knows who the fuck Dominique Franks is! It's never a good idea to wake a sleeping giant. And like Skip said, I can't wait until Tebow hits the corner and Dominique Franks gets JACKED UP!! by Tebow. Oh boy.

Music of the Moment - January 7, 2009

Finally, the video from Does It Offend You, Yeah? that I've been waiting for. Dawn of the Dead is the fifth single from the group's debut album, and also one of my favorite songs from 2008. Since the release of their first joint, the group has blown up, with songs appearing in numerous TV shows and video games. The band was also voted onto the Best Alternative music list of 2008 by iTunes USA. In this video, zombies have taken over the town and people are pretty much wylin everywhere. The bass line for this joint is siiiick. Check it out.

I Wasn't Gonna Do It....But I Did.

Sad, sad music for a sad, sad finish for the Tide.

Sike nah, go Utes and fuck forget Bama. This beating that the Utes put on Bama came out of nowhere and the fact that Utah's undefeated season means nothing is another example of why we need a playoff system. Wayne even said it on First Take today. I'm not gonna front like I predicted Bama getting upset but that's even more reason for a playoff. Damn.

And I was gonna leave it at the Sugar Bowl but I would be remiss if I didn't say ANYthing about last night's Fiesta Bowl with Texas and CHOKE-hio State.

These guys can't catch a break. I did think it was classy that the Sweater Vest let Todd Boeckman get some burn in his last game, especially when he threw T.Pryor that almost game-winning TD. Doesn't really matter though. Ohio State once again cries the tears of unfathomable sadness.
Because they lost.
Again.

[Note: Did anyone else catch the hair on that Texas player on the sideline right after the game-winning drive?? His mullet single-handedly won Texas the game.]
