Carlos Boozer, Kyle Korver and Ronnie Brewer returned to Utah for the first time since becoming members of the best team in sports history Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night. Who would predict that Korver and Brewer would be the difference makers??? Well, that and Derrick Rose going for 29, 7 and three. Check the highlights:
Note: Actually....NBA.com won't let me embed the highlight video from last night...
But you can catch the highlights here. What was that you were saying Nick Batum???
On the college side, Duke overcame 16 points to jealous North Carolina last night. Nolan Smith went all J.J. Redick and went for 35. Young Seth added a career-high 22. I guess even with Kyrie, all's well on Tobacco Road.
Not sure how many people care about jerseys as much as I do but...um, I like jerseys. Not really to wear like I did back in middle school but I still think they're dope. I got the scoop on some of the new ones for the upcoming season from Trey over at BDL. But honestly, they're not even really that dope.
Cleveland Cavaliers
Alright, so they're starting off pretty bad. And not that they get much better, I can understand the Cavs wanting to get new jerseys. They adopted thesejerseys at the beginning of the Lebron era back in 2003 and now that he's gone, it's time for a change. I get it...but they're just not tight. They might instantly become the league's most regular jerseys but whatever.
Utah Jazz
I mean, these aren't....so bad?? It's hard to say. They're not even the traditional Jazz colors. If you took the name off the jersey I might even say...Milwaukee Bucks?? But at least they're...different.
Los Angeles Clippers
These would probably be the worst of the new joints if it weren't for the Cavs' new ones. There's not even much different from last year's with the exception of the small ass font on the red ones. I would have expected more from these. Like a lot more. Look how sad Blake Griffin is haha
Golden State Warriors
When the Warriors announced their new court, I was pretty sure they would come out with new jerseys. What do you know, asamp was right. These aren't too bad considering they look like AAU jerseys. I don't know how you end up with these after having one of my favorite throwbacks in the NBA. IDK, it happens.
Minnesota Timberwolves
These might be the least terrible of the new jerseys. They might not seem too different from the ones that debuted just two years ago but at least they don't look like WNBA jerseys. Yea, those last ones were just turrible.
Man, I can't wait til the Bulls get some new joints. I'd even be hype for us to bring back the black with the pinstripe. I'll probably look like this:
It's no secret...I'm a really big Bulls fan. It's also common knowledge that now that it's July 1, Lebron James and company have the next 10 years of the NBA in the palm of their hands. I'm trying to hope for the best and prepare for the worst, but I'm going to be royally PISSED if we don't get Lebron. Here's a breakdown of what I'm hoping and praying will happen during this summer's free agency:
Chicago Bulls
OK, everybody wants Lebron but I actually feel like we're gonna get him. The LBJ/Bosh/Wade to Miami rumors just seem like too much of a long-shot. There's not enough minutes in a game, let alone possessions to let both Lebron and DWade get theirs. I feel like James x Bosh is a more realistic possibility.....even though I'd probably rather take Amare. Wack defense and all.
Miami Heat
Since I'm hoping that the holy triumvirate of James/Bosh/Wade isn't going become a reality, the next best thing for Miami is to sign both Wade and Amare Stoudamire. DWade deserves a huge contract that would solidify his stay in Miami and by throwing in Amare in his prime, they would still contend in the East. Makes perfect sense...once Lebron comes to Chicago.
This last one....eh
I'm not saying that Carlos Boozer and Dirk are gonna end up playing with each other, I'm just not sure where they're gonna land. I think Dirk could fit will in New Jersey and I think Boozer could fit will in either New York or Miami if Amare doesn't go. Plus, if I had a point guard like Deron Williams, I'd most likely want to stay in Utah. But then again, you gotta go to the best situation and it IS Utah we're talking about...
Other NBA Notes:
Paul Pierce should be headed back to Boston since Doc's returning.
The Bulls should try to find a shooter....um, Ray Allen??
Sad, sad music for a sad, sad finish for the Tide.
Sike nah, go Utes and fuck forget Bama. This beating that the Utes put on Bama came out of nowhere and the fact that Utah's undefeated season means nothing is another example of why we need a playoff system. Wayne even said it on First Take today. I'm not gonna front like I predicted Bama getting upset but that's even more reason for a playoff. Damn.
And I was gonna leave it at the Sugar Bowl but I would be remiss if I didn't say ANYthing about last night's Fiesta Bowl with Texas and CHOKE-hio State.
These guys can't catch a break. I did think it was classy that the Sweater Vest let Todd Boeckman get some burn in his last game, especially when he threw T.Pryor that almost game-winning TD. Doesn't really matter though. Ohio State once again cries the tears of unfathomable sadness. Because they lost. Again.
[Note: Did anyone else catch the hair on that Texas player on the sideline right after the game-winning drive?? His mullet single-handedly won Texas the game.]
[Note Pt. 2: Anybody catch that "tears of unfahomable sadness" reference?? Didn't think so.]
It's been a crazy year for college football and now that the Tide has been ROLLED, it's time to get ready for the Bowl Game Series.
[Note: I'm not detailing all of the bowl games, just the major ones and the ones I'm watching. Owwww.]
December:
31: -MY LSU Tigers vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the Chic-Fil-A Bowl. (7:30)
WTF?? How the hell did we land this one?? I know we had a disappointing year defending our 2007 National Championship, but does that deserve a pairing with Georgia Tech in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GEORGIA?! Damn. I guess us playing in all those Sugar Bowls (7) has come back to haunt us. Even though it's essentially a home game for the Jackets, I still feel like we can beat them in their home state city.
January:
1: -UGA Bulldogs vs. Michigan State Spartans in the Capital One Bowl. (1 pm)
I was probably one of the people least surprised by Georgia's mediocre season, but it's I still have faith in them against Michigan State. Don't get me wrong, Javon Ringer could cause some problems but I feel like Stafford x Moreno x Massaquoi are even more dangerous. Plus, with this being the possible last game for these three together, I'm looking for big numbers.
-Penn State Nittany Lions vs. USC Trojans in the Rose Bowl. (4:30)
Oh damn. This might be one of the games I'm really looking forward to. USC, who has arguably more talent than any other team in the nation, is going against a Penn State team who was one loss away from the National Championship. I have to go with USC on this one. Their roster is too deep (pause) for Penn State to match up with, plus they're looking to prove that this should have been their year. Should be pretty high scoring, for USC at least.
-Cincinnati Bearcats vs. Virginia Tech Hokies in the Orange Bowl. (8:30)
This should also be a good one because I'm a fan of Tyrod Taylor. [Especially after they tried to T him]. I know that a 9-4 record from Tech doesn't jump out at you but they lost those four to some really good teams. Also, I think that Cincy might be a little bit of hype. This is the one game that I'm choosing to go with the underdog even though I'm not too sure it's gonna happen.
2: -Ole Miss Rebels vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Cotton Bowl. (2 pm)
I usually go with the SEC team but...Texas Tech is gonna smash Ole Miss in this one. I could have easily seen Texas Tech in the National Championship while Ole Miss has more fluke wins than a little bit. Crabtree is about to go OFF on this overrated defense. Should be one of the more lopsided bowl games this year.
-Utah Utes vs. Alabama Crimson Tide in the Sugar Bowl. (8 pm)
This should be another one-sided game. Alabama is another team that could have been in the big dance, but fell short at the end. Utah was able to go undefeated but they really only beat two quality teams. It's hard for me to say it, but Bama fucking killed half of the [SEC] teams they played this year. Bama's gonna give Utah the business by at least 3 TD's. Yurp.
5: -Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Texas Longhorns in the Fiesta Bowl. (8 pm)
I'm not gonna miss one snap of this one. Ohio State has a lot to prove after a couple of trips to the Championship and the first year of a promising, young quarterback, a win over Texas would be huge. Texas, on the other hand, might have even more to prove. They were snubbed by the BCS and were unable to play in the Big 12 Championship, a game that would have allowed them to make it to the National Championship. Led by Heisman candidate Colt McCoy, they are one of the most dangerous teams in the country. This should be a legendary match-up of classic college football teams. But I'm taking Texas. [Sorry Wonderboy.]
8: -Florida Gators vs. Oklahoma Sooners in the FedEx National Championship. (8 pm)
The matchup of all matchups. A fast, quick striking offense facing a powerful and experienced defense. Oklahoma's record-setting offense has never seen a defense like Florida's but at the same time, Florida didn't face an offense like OU's this year. Percy Harvin should be at full strength and we've seen what happens when he is. I'm going with Florida off the strength of being an SEC team and I can't bet against Tim Tebow. I kind of wish it was Florida/Texas, but beggars can't be choosers. Hopefully after he cleans up the country a little bit, Barack will put his foot down and force a college football playoff. Only time will tell.
Should be a fucking awesome Bowl season. Bowlinnnnn'!!
