R.I.P. Chris Henry

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry passed away this morning a day after falling from truck following an argument with his fiance. The situation is really messed up especially after Henry was turning his troubled life around since his rough 2007 season. Henry was given a second chance by the Bengals and seemed to have positively taken advantage of the opportunity. He even got the word "Blessed" tattooed on his neck before the 2009 season.

In a preseason interview with the Associated Press Henry was quoted as saying, "I kind of felt like I dug myself out of the hole and started doing the right things. People say, 'How you feeling now Chris? You doing all right?' I just tell them I'm blessed. That's why I got it."

He was 26.

"I'm Thinkin About Tryin for a ScholarSHIPPP...."

This is possibly my most random blog entry ever but it's aight. So I was watching one of my favorite movies, Pineapple Express last night when I realized there was a reference to another one of my favorite movies, The Breakfast Club. It's pretty subtle, but me and @jinxington always laughed at the part when it came up in Breakfast Club. "I'm tryin out for a scholarSHIPPP!" hahaha
The Breakfast Club - 1985

Pineapple Express - 2009

Another reason why Pineapple Express is a classic.

Music of the Moment - December 15, 2009

I mean, I'm pretty sure that it's always a good thing to get an Eminem feature but you must realize you run the risk of getting Renagade'd. But I can also say that if Em wasn't on this track, I probably wouldn't have been so hype about it. I'll even go ahead and throw it out that Em might have outshined Wayne on this one, but you can decide. It's rumored to be the most recent song from Rebirth to leak and we might even see it on Relapse 2. Check out the new joint from Wayne and Eminem Drop the World.

I'm not mad.

You're Doing it Wrong...

This is the perfect example of how NOT to play Who Wants To Be a Millionaire:
Cole, you stupid.

Watch Out Snuggie. It's the...Necky???

Seriously, what will they think of next?? This really looks like the Scarf Edition Snuggie and it's just as weird. It's like part-bib, part-turtleneck and overall ridiculous. But at least it protects you from "chilly gaps and gaping holes." hahaha Ladies and gentlemen, I present, The Necky.
Gimme dat Necky??

Proof that people will buy anything.

[Note: Shouts to Dooby Brain for the vid.]

Music of the Moment: Foo Fighters - My Hero Original & Acoustic

I mean, you pretty much have to like this song.

Well, you don't have to like it but it's still a dope song. My Hero by the Foo Fighters always seems to come up on Twitter for Music Mondays so I feel like this post is long overdue. I've also always been a fan of acoustics so I included the live performance from the Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn. #musicmonday lives.
Foo Fighters - My Hero

Foo Fighters - My Hero Acoustic, Live on Craig Kilborn Show

Plus, it was the theme song for Varsity Blues and even Not Another Teen Movie. How can you argue with that???

Shit's Disgusting. Come on Bulls...Seriously.

I don't know what to say. Seriously, I'm at a loss for words. And that doesn't happen often. We started the week by losing to the "worst team in NBA history" then follow it up by getting DRUG by the Hawks in Atlanta. This makes no sense. We're the third most valuable team in the league and we're still performing like this. We've actually lost our last four games to the Cavs, Raptors, Nets and Hawks. It's embarrassing, really. So after this week of disappointments, I'm continuing my ongoing push to get Lebron to Chicago next year. Why go to the Knicks?? Don't go to sorry ass New Jersey. Come to the historic Chicago Bulls. I mean, either you or Chris Bosh. #kanyeshrug

Once again...this shit's not gonna cut it.
We play the Warriors tonight and I really can't take a 5th straight loss.

Well damn.

Florida and Alabama continued their dominance of the SEC this year by having 10 and 9 players on the All-SEC First and Second teams, respectively. Music of the Moment - December 8, 2009

Found this video for #musicmonday yesterday and it's from the band Coconut Records. I know the name sounds kinda weird, but they're a pretty straightforward band. One interesting fact about the band is that they're lead by actor Jason Schwartzman from Funny People and I ♥ Huckabees. The first of the videos isnt' an official video, but it's a collection of clips set to the band's song Nighttiming from their 2007 album of the same name. The second is the video for their single Microphone from their album Davy, released earlier this year. Check em out:

See, not all actors are bad musicians...and vice versa.

asamp was...uh...MISINFORMED

So I guess Tebow IS human. And the only reason I have a picture of him for this post and not a jubilant Alabama team is because I REFUSE to put any pictures of Bama celebrating on my blog.

I refuse.

But even with that, good luck to the Tide. SEC superiority all day.

Oh yeah, and Ingram for Heisman. Early.

Saturday, December 5, 2009

Finally. Florida vs. Bama

So yeah, I can't be the only person treating this game like the true National Championship. The SEC Championship is being played today at here in Atlanta with #1 Florida playing #2 Alabama. It's pretty hard to predict this one, but I'm going with Florida. Even without dumb ass Carlos Dunlap I think that Florida's D will be too much. McElroy hasn't really been tested on a stage like this, while Tebow has done this pretty much every year he's played. Mark Ingram's health could be an issue for Bama even though reports say he's going to play. Plus, Trent Richardson's not a bum either. I also feel like the matchup between Julio Jones and Joe Haden will be big also. But like I said, Saban and all, the Tide just won't have enough to beat Florida.

Sorry Bama fans.

But hey, at least you can sit back and imagine this actually happened...

That would have been nasty.

Ron-Ron Luvs Tha Henny // Tiger Woods Apologizes

Ron Artest is a wild dude.

He recently admitted that he used to drink Hennessy at halftime of basketball games during his time with the Bulls. Well damn. I don't know whether to be upset or to applaud the sheer ability to drink a hard alcohol at halftime and then finish out a game. But at the same time I'm kind of mad because this might explain his mediocre play in Chicago which lead to us trading him after just a little over two years. Ron-Ron must have been on that Keon Clark "never play a game sober" tip. He even said that when Ben Wallace comes around, he stays on guard and is still in the mood to fight him. I don't really care though. Ron Artest is one of my favorite athletes [Yes I said it] and not only because we share a birthday. He's a good entertainer, man. Can't rap to save his life though.

[Note: Shouts to @jayredg for the heads up.]

Now, on to Tiger.

I know he cheated and all, but still. It's never fair for the media and the sports community to come down on a person so tough. He admitted he was wrong, asked for forgiveness and also asked that we move on. Can we please?? One thing that I will say about the Tiger situation is that, right or wrong, he made a solid point. In his statement on he said,

"No matter how intense curiosity about public figures can be, there is an important and deep principle at stake which is the right to some simple, human measure of privacy....Personal sins should not require press releases and problems within a family shouldn't have to mean public confessions."

No matter which side of the scandal you're on, you have to agree with that.
Did Tiger cheat? Yes. Was he wrong? Yes.
Should the worldwide media have a field day with it? No.

[Note: I don't wanna hear anything when Tiger starts bussin ass next year on the tour. Hold your head, Tiger.]

The Dumb Athlete of the Week Award Goes To...

Carlos Dunlap.

Yes, you, Carlos Dunlap.

You have been awarded the first ever Dumb Athlete of the Week Award for receiving a DUI this morning after being found passed out at a stoplight at the wheel of your Chrysler. Not only were you arrested... but FOUR DAYS before the National SEC Championship?? #comeonson And Carlos, we all know you're not a bum on the field. I mean, you were the Defensive MVP of the National Championship last year! Yikes. The University of Florida hasn't said whether or not you'll be suspended for the game, but it's pretty likely. Not only that, but it also shows poor judgement in the eyes of NFL scouts. You can't be serious, man. I have nothing else to say.

Mr. Dunlap, you, are the Dumb Athlete of the Week.

Music of the Moment - November 30, 2009

I was pretty late copping Weezer's latest album Raditude, mainly because I forgot it even came out! I bought it this weekend as part of my Black Friday festivities and I'm pretty satisfied with it. The one joint that stood out to me from jump was Can't Stop Partying with Lil Wayne. Now, I'm not the biggest Wayne fan in the world, but he doesn't ruin the song. It's a pretty good combo and will probably be the next single. Check it.

I hope Rebirth sounds even remotely this good.

LSU's Porter Named at Memphis, Becomes NCAA's 10th Current Black Head Coach

Larry Porter, LSU's associate head coach and running backs coach, has officially been named as the head coach for the University of Memphis. Porter will not only be a head coach for the first time, but he will become the 10th current African-American head coach in college football.

Congrats are in order.

Aight, So the Season is Pretty Much a Wrap, But These Are DOPE

Nike does it again.

This week, college football teams around the country will showcase their special Nike Pro-Combat uniforms. Nike has completely redesigned the jerseys of 10 schools (LSU, Miami, Mizzouri, Florida State, Oklahoma, Florida, Texas, TCU, Virginia Tech and Ohio State) all the way from the helmet and jersey to the dry fits and cleats. It's a win-win for both parties since Nike gets free advertising and the players and fans get to see new jerseys. Especially for teams like LSU and Ohio State with really conservative jerseys. Not only do the jerseys add a new look to the programs but the jerseys are up to 40% lighter than the normal ones.

I mean, it might not sound like much, but these jerseys are DOPE. And don't sleep on the gloves. Each team has their logo one the palm of the gloves. Dopeness.

See the whole story and a better look here.

Miami, Mizzou, FSU
Oklahoma, Florida, Texas
TCU, Virginia Tech, Ohio State

In Depth looks and slogans for each school:
LSU: Cochon De Lait [Pig Roast]
Miami: The U Knows
Mizzou: Beast Mode
Florida State: Fear the Spear
Oklahoma: Stake Our Claim
Florida: Fear the Mission
Texas: Texas Fight
TCU: Don't Back Down
Virginia Tech: Ut Prosim [ that I may serve]
Ohio State: Earned

Well damn.

I've Had Enough. This Really Has to Stop.

I really can't have another sports weekend like this past weekend.

First, LSU goes and loses to Ole Miss. Jealous'd.
Then, the Bears lost to the Eagles in Chicago. Jealous'd2.
And then, to round things out, the Bulls go to Portland and get embarrassed by the Blazers. Jealous'd3.

This really can't happen again. I'm tired of looking like this when I watch SportsCenter:

Dave Chappelle...Best Ever??

No disrespect to some of the all-time greats [Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Bernie Mac, Richard Pryor] but I really feel like Dave Chappelle might be the best to ever do stand up. Not just my favorite but the BEST. I know that Delirious and Raw are considered two of the funniest shows in history, but damn, I wasn't even alive when Delirious dropped and Raw came out a month after my first birthday. This dude Dave just had two things that the others didn't: Relatability and Timing. I'm just sayin, watch Killin' Em Softy and For What It's Worth and try to tell me it's not some of the funniest shit ever.

In case you don't have the DVD, Killin' Em Softly in its entirety...

Part 2/6
Part 3/6
Part 4/6
Part 5/6
Part 6/6

"Gun store, Gun store, Liquor store, Gun Store. WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU TAKING ME?!" [Part 2, 6:50]

Classic shit.

Bulls vs. Lakers Tonight

Well, it's not quite MJ vs. Magic but it should still be a good one. If you know me, then you know I'm one of the biggest Kobe fans in it...except when he's playing the Bulls.

We need this W...but so do the Lakers.

Not Bad, Bulls. Not Bad...

The Bulls were FINALLY able to eclipse 100 points as they held off the Kings last night, 101-87 in Sacramento. John Salmons had 23 for Chicago, while Donte Greene dropped 24 to lead all scorers. I still feel like Greene should have gotten a technical foul for that dumb ass haircut, but it didn't happen. The Bulls improved to 6-4 and will visit the Los Angeles Kobe Bryants Lakers Thursday night. Highlights from last night's game:
Good win, Bulls.

I'm still shouting "LBJ/2010" though. #kanyeshrug

Music of the Moment - November 17, 2009

I wish I'd heard about the Flaming Lips years ago but I gotta cop another Late Pass. The band has been together since 1983 but I pretty much ignored the mass majority of their music until I heard their new song Watching the Planets from their latest album Embryonic. I'd be lying if I didn't say it was a little different, but it's still dope. Especially the drums. Check it out:

The Flaming Lips - Watching the Planets

Download: Watching the Planets

[Note: WHATEVER YOU DO...don't Google the video for this song. Just don't. Take my word for it. Seriously. Dope song, bad video. You've been warned.]

Iron Mic Sypher featuring Kevin Durant aka JWerk aka Wal-Mart

Since my man Jinx over at The Chinese Society decided to post his favorite video from the Iron Mic Sypher [sic] via the homie @HardcorGentleman, I figured I'd do the same. Me and @Mr_SZS nearly died laughing at this shit. It's no Eli Porter but still fucking funny.
TRY TO tell me that the 2nd rapper JWerk doesn't look like Kevin Durant.
He LITERALLY said "Ye'herme" at 0:06, 0:13, 5:26, 5:34, 5:40, 5:53, 6:11, 6:12, 6:14, 6:18, 6:20, 6:22, [whispers at 6:24], 6:34 and 6:38.

That's too many Ye'hermes.

Music of the Moment - November 12, 2009

Gotta make this one pretty quick. Headed to Tin Lizzy's with @martEMCfly, @KxG_215 and this nigga Rhodan, I mean @Pbbt. Anyway, The Hood Internet is a duo from Chicago that specializes in mash-ups of popular music. Sounds pretty basic, right?? It's not. They take hip hop verses with rock and alternative music and pair them up...and vice versa. They've been doing this since 2007 and none of their mixtapes have let me down yet. So far they have four Hood Internet Mixtapes, a Hood Internet vs. Chicago Mixtape featuring all Chicago artists and even a few with individual artists [Lykke Li and The Pack. I know, random.] I decided to post two of my favorite Kanye mash-ups. Enjoy. Their mixtapes are free and can be downloaded here.

Oh yea, you better know what tomorrow is...
I'll give you a hint. It rhymes with "It's my jirthday."

New Clipse...Can We Get the Album Already????

Clipse dropped a video for "Door Man" off their upcoming album, Till the Casket Drops yesterday. It's pretty cool, but I was really hoping that they'd put one out for "Popular Demand" with Cam'ron since it's heroine + sex: dope as fuck. But hey, beggars can't be choosers. Album's due on December 8. Let's hope it's for real this time...
Oh, and the album art was released today. I'm not really that impressed. #kanyeshrug

One thing for sure: There is NO shortage of snookups in the video. Ariiiite.

Bulls...I Have No Words For You

Actualy, that's not true. I have five.

1. Lebron
2. Chicago
3. Two

Music of the Moment - November 9, 2009 [Wale Edition]

Less than a day away from the much anticipated release of Wale's debut album. I know kids have been waiting 5-6 years [and even longer] for this joint to drop. Since most of the people I know have had the album for about a week now, I won't waste time posting joints from the album. [Partly because I haven't listened to it yet.] Instead, I'll just post up some of my favorite somewhat lowkey mixtape tracks from Wale. You prolly know him from the rap.
