awr March Madness Picks – Explained Mostly With .GIFs

Ok, I gotta make this quick. Mainly because the NCAA Tournament starts tomorrow afternoon and I have to be up for work in less than five hours. (Clearly I wrote this Wednesday night.) Ok, so like literally everyone else out that takes place in any March Madness Bracket Pools, I don’t have a direct science on how to pick these teams. Obviously. Because if I did, I’d be quite wealthy and I definitely wouldn’t be working 60 hour weeks while having second thoughts on that 7th Jack & Coke on Wednesday. For the record, I’d probably live in mansion in Miami and be Future’s European Tour Manager. I’ve gotten too far off track. Now, for my bracket.

I’m in a few pools this year so I don’t want to give too much info on where my picks came from this year, or really even what all of them are—I know there are some procrastinators among my competition this year—so I’ll just give a few highlights. Note: These are subject to change until about 12:14 on Thursday….so there’s that.

• Don’t Call It An Upset: (8) Pitt over (1) Gonzaga – Yea, I might be wylin. But have you seen Gonzaga lately? They’ve gotten Gonzaga-er) and Gonzaga-er as the year’s gone by. Did you see the Air Guitar earlier this year against Illinois?

What about the Gonzaga-ness displayed on Selection Sunday?
As Bill Hanstock on SBNation put it, “You want some Gonzaga with that Gonzaga, Gonzaga?” I got Pitt in a 5 – 7 point game.

• Marshall "Mathers" Henderson: (12) Ole Miss over (5) Wisconsin – This most definitely also constitutes as wylin. But hey, Ole Miss just beat Missouri and Florida en route taking the SEC Tournament crown. I know it was only one game that’s gotta mean something. Plus, he gave us arguably the greatest .GIF of the college basketball year.

But I'd also fail you if I didn't mention this...


• Sleeper Team: Illinios. I know, but the wylin just doesn’t stop. I know Illinois has basically no shot at winning this year...but then again, yeah they do. They started the season hot, they’ve beating Indiana, they’ve beaten Ohio State (they also lost to Indiana and Ohio State, but at least they know they can win.) But hey, that’s why they’re my sleeper.
Call it flukey, but the Illini pulled this one off.


• National Champion: I’m keeping this one to myself. All I’ll say is that we all could use a little Sonya Curry in our lives.

Impromptu Dunk Contest Featuring Terrico White. Wow.

Another gem I found over at BDL, which along with BullBearSock are worth daily reads for any basketball fan. This is a TwitVid of a recent rookie photo shoot turned impromptu Dunk Contest. Even with all of the jaw-dropping dunks, the hands down winner is Detroit Pistons' rookie Terrico White. Watch how he ethers everyone at the 2:18 mark. Shit's disgusting.
Yea...he could have won last year's dunk contest with that one. Easily. But even with this amazing athleticism, this will most likely be the last time I post about White -- he's a former Ole Miss Rebel and currently a Detroit Piston.

The Tigers and Bulls fan in me just won't allow it.

#4 Ole Miss Gets Jealous'd By USC...not THAT USC...

I'm making this one quick. The #4 ranked Ole Miss Rebels [Worst Mascot ever] got beat by the unranked South Carolina Gamecocks [2nd Worst Mascot ever] last night. I can't say that I didn't see this coming because I felt going into the season that Ole Miss, besides Snead & McCluster, was overrated. I would write more but #bitchitsfriday. Oww.

AWR College Football Picks - Week Three

Gotta make this quick since the games are about to start...

• THE (9) LSU Tigers over Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns. Home game, wish I was THERE. [ESPNU, 7:30]
• (1) Florida [WAY] over Tennessee [Ass whoopin of the day [CBS, 3:30]
• (2) Texas over Texas Tech [ABC, 8:00]
• (3) USC over Washington [ABC, 3:30]
• (4) Bama over North Texas [Peachtree TV, 12:20] - No bullshit, it's on Peachtree TV.
• (5) Penn State [WAY] over Temple [12:00]
• (6) Ole Miss [WAY] over Southeastern Louisiana [7:30]
• (8) Cal over Minnesota [ESPN, 12:00]

Upsets:

• Florida State over (7) BYU. It kinda sucks that it's considered an upset these days, but yea. [7:00]
• Oregon over (18) Utah. Kind of a stretch without LaGarrette Blount but it's in Eugene...plus, I'm not really pressed either way. [ESPN, 3:30]

Keep an eye on:

• (19) Nebraska @ (13) Virginia Tech - Should be a good one with a lot of offense. [ABC, 3:30 - VT ftw]
• Michigan State @ Notre Dame - Two unranked teams but still another good game. [NBC, 3:30 - ND ftw]
• (23) Georgia @ Arkansas - Not a fan of either team but Joe Cox is on the hot seat and needs a strong showing to keep his job. [7:45 - UGA ftw]
• West Virginia @ Auburn - I'm tryin to see what Auburn talkin bouttt... [7:45 - AU ftw]
• Northwestern @ Syracuse - Not necessarily gonna be a good game, just wanna see my man Paulus get that first W. [7:00 - SU ftw]

Should be another great week of football. Better hope your team doesn't get jealous'd...

Florida Rockin the AP.../Perriloux at it AGAIN???

So I guess Florida's gonna be good again this year.

Tebow and the boys are on a mission to repeat as National Champs and apparently a lot of people think they will. In the Associated Press' Preseason Top 25, the Gators received 58 of 60 first place votes -- the most in the history of the poll. Hot damn. Texas got the other two first place votes but it really doesn't matter. As far as the SEC goes, Bama came in at #5, Ole Miss snuck in at #8 [overrated], LSU came in at #11 and Georgia rounded it out at #13. Not too bad. Bama has a chance to go pretty far and I feel like my Tigers are a sleeper this year but I'm not too convinced on Ole Miss and UGA. They still have a lot to prove in my opinion. In other "Can't Get Right" news, Ryan Perriloux [the former #1 ranked QB in high school football and LSU signee] just got suspended for the season opener for his team Jacksonville State. Apparently he violated some team rules and will be forced to sit the game out. His season debut will be the following week against Florida State. Talk about wasted talent. He actually still has all the talent in the world, he's just been making really bad decisions. When I was in high school, we went against this fool in 7 on 7 and he was literally the best quarterback I've ever played against. I still feel like he can make it to the league one day if he cleans up his act and settles down some. Real talk, had he done the right thing last year he would have been our starting QB and we wouldn't have gone 8-5. But everything happens for a reason. I wish him all the best but DAMN bro.
