Trillectro 2013 | DC’s Hip-Hop/Electronic Music Festival

 photo 89dfdf93-f47e-490e-9b0e-803ccffa03a0_zpsda178e0d.jpg

[This article was originally written by asamp at ClanEclectic.com.]

Everything’s a debate these days. Kobe vs. Lebron. Morehouse vs. Howard (we all know the answer to this one). And even Godfather vs. Godfather Part 2 (We’ll pretend the third one didn’t happen). All that being said, what could possibly be the best thing about Trillectro—DC’s annual hip-hop/electronic mash up music fest? It could obviously be the collection of two usually separate genres of music, joining forces for a day-long concert series. Or it could be the dozens of amazing DC food trucks lined up and an endless supply of DC Brau for the people. Quite frankly, it could even be the name. Regardless of your motivation for attending, Trillectro 2013 will undoubtedly have something for everyone.

Following the last summer’s inaugural show, the good people from DCtoBC [Modi, Quinn & Marty] have started right where they left off with a very creative marketing blitz like none we’ve seen before…unless you saw last year’s. Also, the Phase 1 lineup was released not too long ago and again, no matter the musical taste, there will be something for everyone.

Confirmed so far (in alphabetical order):
Alex Young • A$AP Ferg • Carnage
DJ Sliink • Gent & Jawns • Ghost Beach
Gold Room • King Chip • Nadastrom
Travi$ Scott • Salva

Now, I don’t know about you, but just the chance of hearing A$AP Ferg perform Work live is worth the price of admission. This year’s festival is taking place at the Half Street Fairgrounds in DC on August 17th from 12 noon – 9:00 pm and additional acts will be released as we get closer to the date. For DC locals or those making the trip, the show takes place outside Nationals Park at the Fairgrounds/Bullpen. Check the video below to see what happened last year. It was nuts.

That video alone should provide enough motivation to get you there. But just in case it didn’t, head over to Trillectro.com and join the mailing list or catchTrillectro on Twitter. See you at the Fairgrounds.

Trillectro Is Coming.

What is Trillectro?

By now, you should definitely know but just in case you don't, I'll let Modi, Quinn and Marcel tell you:

"the first music festival in the district of its kind, trillectro is our way of bridging the gap between hip-hop and electronic music. on august 11, 2012, trillectro will unite music enthusiasts at DC's brand new HALF STREET FAIRGROUNDS (outside nationals park! GO NATS!) for an unforgettable day of incredible performances from some of the best emerging local and national artists.

modeled after brooklyn's dekalb market, this unique and spacious venue reuses salvaged shipping containers to surround a main stage, bar areas, tents and gaming space for a dynamic retail and entertainment experience. trillectro will be the first event of this size and nature to take place at the HALF STREET FAIRGROUNDS."

Here's a fly-through look at the venue: Half Street Fairgrounds

With all that being said, take that trip down/over/up to DC this weekend and make this happen.

[Note: And tickets are HALF OFF on LivingSocial. Excuses are becoming minimal.]

Watch The Throne [Behind the Scenes]

Photobucket
A behind the scenes look into one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Just a quick trip back home to Chicago. Nothing big.

I fully expect to see a full length video in the near future.
At least I hope so.

Q-Tip x Kanye West - Award Tour [Live]

Photobucket
So apparently Q-Tip thought it would be a good idea to bring out the ever-dope Kanye West out for his recent performance of Award Tour at this year's Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival. I agree. Just check for yourself:

Classic ass performance.

Coachella Might Be a Stretch....I'll Settle for Brochella

Photobucket
Man, just look at that lineup. I'm super t'd that I might not make it to Cochella this year. And this is basically a blower. I mean, Kanye West headlining; MGMT, Crystal Castles and Odd Future doing shows; and even Lil B and She Wants Revenge are getting love. Damn. But no worries, this year my bros and I are going to Brochella.

My Chemical Romance - Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys Album Cover

Home
I'm pretty excited about new MCR, but this new music has been a little, um....different. I'll withhold judgement until I hear some more from the album. For now, here's their latest joint, Na Na Na.
Not super dope, but just for super dopeness, the Ghost of You video. THIS is the MCR I'm hoping for.

Guess we'll see on November 23rd.

[Double] Music of the Moment - July 7, 2009 [Live Edition]

Photobucket
Since it's the time of year for all the live music festivals and all that, I figured I'd post a couple live performances for one of my Music of the Moments. To start off, Explosions in the Sky is one of my favorite bands of all-time. I first noticed them as the band to do the majority of the score and soundtrack for movie Friday Night Lights. The music is simple: two guitars, a bass and a drummer. But the four of them play their instruments with a passion that can't go unnoticed. I got the chance to see them perform sophomore year at the Variety Playhouse in Little 5 and they did not disappoint. To this day, it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Check out one of my favorite songs from the Texas band entitled Your Hand in Mine.
[Note: You can hear it in Friday Night Lights here around the 1:50 mark.]

This second joint is from one of Explosions in the Sky's biggest influences, Scottish band Mogwai. Their song Auto Rock was used in the movie version of Miami Vice as well as several commercials. Again, no lyrics, but still a dope song. Check out the live version from their April performance at the Republic in New Orleans. Dopeness.
[Note: The Lance Armstrong commercial featuring Auto Rock can be found here. Pretty dope commercial too.]

Concert Alert - Black Kids: Athens, 40 Watt Club

There's a Black Kids concert tonight in Athens at the historic 40 Watt Club and I'm gonna head out there with TK and Fing Dollaz. For a reminder of who I'm talking about, check this post. I know it's in Athens but I definitely think it's worth the drive. Hit me up if you're tryin to roll. Boomsooka.

[Note: Check out Hurricane Jane about a drunk dude at a club tryin to find a girl for the night. Classic Black Kids joint. Yurp.]
