And now I have yet another reason to be hype for Doris. Earl Sweatshirt has released visuals for his latest single, the Vince Staples and Casey Veggies assisted, Hive. Not only that, but Earl also confirmed the new release date and final tracklist for Doris, due August 20th. I shouldn’t have to say much more to get you excited. The video has a familiar look and feel because it was directed by Hiro Murai, who also did the video for . Check out the video for Hive and the tracklist for Doris.
It's about time we got some visuals for Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe. Fresh off of his Sweetlife Festival performance this past weekend, the Compton artist released the video for the fourth single from Good kid, m.A.A.d city. So far, the video contains a Mike Epps cameo, a funeral/party and several noteworthy snooks. Sounds about right.
Kendrick continues his World Tour on May 17th, heading out to the Sun God Festival out in California.
This might be the most Pusha-Tist video possible for one of the most Pusha-Tist songs in recent memory. Like seriously. Push has found his lane and he's basically perfected it at this point. The dark, Cannon/Kanye-produced Numbers on the Board will most definitely get you excited for My Name Is My Name, due July 16. Oh, and look for the most brief cameos in music video history from Kanye West and Chief Keef.
In recognition of the 40th birthday of everyone's favorite genius producer not named Kanye [or Timothy], here is list of the Top 5 Pharrell-assisted hooks——in no particular order——as determined by me, my iTunes and embedding-enabled YouTube videos. I went with hooks because there are way too many beats or songs by the Neptunes/Pharrell to narrow down into a readable list. I even threw in the song from way back that started it all. Check these out and bump some N.E.R.D. today for God's sake.
1. Snoop Dogg feat. Pharrell - Beautiful
Beautiful really ushered in the musical partnership between Snoop and the Neptunes that would ultimately bring us classics such as Drop It Like It's Hot, From tha Chuuuch to da Palace, Pass It, Pass It and...
2. Snoop Dogg feat. Pharrell - Let's Get Blown
This is definitely my favorite Snoop/Neptunes track and I doubt it'll ever leave my iTunes despite having background vocals from.......Keyshia Cole? Sorry, I hope that doesn't ruin the song for you because it definitely almost did for me.
3. Jay-Z feat. Pharrell - Excuse Me Miss
Say what you want about The Blueprint 2 but I enjoyed it [a lot, actually]. Pharrell definitely left his mark on the album with four Neptunes-produced songs, with Excuse Me Miss being the best of the group. No matter where you are when you hear this song, this is a hook that you just have to sing along to. Incredible hook. Oh, and the rest of the song is cool, too.
4. Clipse feat. Pharrell - Gangsta Lean
Gangsta Lean was probably my favorite song on Lord Willin', even above Gridin'. While the better song might be debatable, what cannot be argued is the fact that this is one of the great Pharrell features in history. Random sidenote....Where are Philly's Most Wanted these days? Anybody?
I still think this is one of the most underrated Clipse songs of all time, not saying that there are many, but still. Pharrell's hook is what sticks out initially but this is just a dope song overall. Even WITH Ab-Liva and Rosco P. Coldchain, and that's saying a lot. Check that out, my blog's first Roscoe P. Coldchain reference. I'm distinguished now.
Bonus: Ma$e feat. Puff Daddy - Lookin' At Me
Okay, so I realize that it's not technically Pharrell singing this hook but this is the song that started it all. Plus, the Neptunes did the beat and in hindsight, wouldn't you much rather have had Pharrell on this hook instead of Diddy? Yeah, me too.
Also, Complex put out a list of the Top 25 Pharrell Hooks a couple years back but I didn't actually read it, though. Because, you know, slideshows are annoying.
OK, so I realize it's March 27th and we're literally in the heart of March Madness. All energy and focus should be on the Sweet 16. I get this. But every once in awhile we come across something so majestic, so glorious—if you will—that it just can't wait. This video definitely qualifies. Now, I don't know who to thank [or more appropriately, blame] for this song and video inspired by J.R. Smith, everyone's favorite sharpshooting black hole/booty twitpic'er, but seriously, Thank You. Special shout out to the internet. And upon further review, I'm not 100% convinced that this wasn't made by J.R. Smith himself. Behold:
So, again, I'm not sure who deserves the praise for this amazing song/video but there is one thing we all can be confident of: J.R. Smith's Gonna J.R. Smith.
Everyone's favorite Wolfpack [no disrespect] is back for the third and final installment of the Hangover triolgy. Chow's alive? Black Doug's back? And is that....John Goodman? I can't really tell what to expect but I hope it's at least better than Part 2. Check out the trailer.
The Hangover Part III is set for a May 24th release.
Finally, some visuals for Poetic Justice, the Janet Jackson-sampled single from Kendrick Lamar's amzaing debut, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City.). Oh yea, and a not-so somber Drake is on it. The clip opens up with the familiar Sherane... skit and the video gets moving from there. Is it just me or did this video take about a month or two too long to drop? Either way, check it out:
I haven't been blogging for awhile. I don't really have much of an excuse other than I've focusing on work and side projects here and there. But every once in awhile, there's something—a song, event or video—that always seems to bring me back. This time, we can thank Russell Westbrook for my favorite video since this. Thank you, Russ. Thank you.
Dark Knight Rises, Ted, Prometheus, The Bourne Leagacy, Men In Black 3 [major stretch], Total Recall and G.I. Joe 2. And I'm sure I missed a couple. It's gonna be a wild ass movie summer.
Damn, I really miss the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Like a lot. The worst part about it is that I don't even see reruns on TV these days. It looks like Pogo has our back with this dope mix of clips from the show making a pretty catchy song. Can't even lie, I've watched this at least 3 times.

Unless you were living under a rock this weekend, I'm sure you saw that Herman Cain decided to suspend his presidential campaign. Man, so sad...oh well. What's a more fitting way to bid farewell to everyone's favorite least favorite politician than with a hilarious voice over video? This is arguably one of the funniest things I've seen in all of 2011. Embarrassingly enough, I actually thought it was real for the first 10 seconds. I promise you can't watch this without laughing.
I'm pretty new to the Toronto-based band Fucked Up but upon first listen I could tell there was something special about their song, The Other Shoe. First off, I can't even remember where I came across them in the first place, but I somehow found this song, copped the CD and it's been history ever since.
Their album is called David Comes to Life and it details the relationship between the protagonist, David and his lady friend, Veronica. The Other Shoe brings us into the point of the story where everything seems to be fine between the two and then issues bring the relationship to a crossroads. [ex: "Right on time, here's the other shoe/Clouds overhead, start to loom."]
I'll be the first to admit that their music is a little more "screamy" than I'm used to but the album really sticks to the theme and somehow this really works. And strangely enough, the lyrics aren't too difficult to decipher.
I'm positive that this is pretty different from anything I've posted in the past but let me know what you think. And let it get to the 2:40 build up before you make a decision:
Oh yea, and try not to have "Dying on the inside" stuck in your head the rest of the day.
The guys from Epic Meal Time are back again to show us exactly how we'd eat....if we were gods. First up, the West Coast Burger Pile. It looks like the things that dreams are made of. I'm pretty sure my man Wimpy would have a coronary.
"Jesus Christ, there's so many GD burgers."
Next up, the 12 Gauge Hot Dog. There's just something about 50 cent hot dogs, bacon and Jack Daniels that makes this irresistible.
"Ketchup...not that special. Oh wait, there's Jack? It's fuckin special now, player."
These guys really should release a cookbook. These meals always look amazing.
But maybe the half naked girl laying down bacon strips had something to do with that.
Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar has a new Va$htie-directed video for ADHD off of his Section.80 album. More heat from him as he continues to gain popularity on the East coast. Shouts to my man Modi for putting me [and most of DC] on.
I can't front, after 10+ years of listening to Eminem, the whole Asher Roth experiment of 2009 and semi-drunken freestyles with my man Johnny C., there's not much room on my musical plate for another white rapper.
I'm kidding....but I'm only kinda kidding. Then outta nowhere comes this kid OnCue out of Connecticut. At first glance, he's nothing different: Supreme snap back, frat boy look. Basically the same thing we've seen the last few years. But after stumbling across his video for Feel Tall this weekend, I was immediately hooked. So hooked, in fact, that I even risked the inevitable short jokes from my friends due to the song title. Check out the video and the download link underneath.
OnCue - Feel Tall [Produced by CJ Luzi]
I mean, he's no savior to hip-hop but this is a pretty dope song. If we let Drake get away with singing on all his hooks, we might as well let this kid.
