So I'm very extremely new to Lissie but I'm already a huge fan of hers mainly for three reasons:
She's from Illinois
She chugs tequila like a champ
And she performed an amazing cover of Pursuit of Happiness at a show last year.
Not sure how I missed this for an entire year but I'm sold nonetheless. I mean, the cover was so dope that some considered it the top cover of 2010. Check it out:
I've always been a big fan over song covers, and this is no different. Even though I don't really care for the original, this girl Karmin murdered Chris Brown's song. But not just his part, EVERY single verse.
I think I've found my wife.
Quite impressive.
Karmin, if you're out there, do an old Ma$e cover and I'm all yours.
I was riding to 808's & Heartbreak yesterday and I got to Heartless but I couldn't even listen to it all the way through without thinking of these two versions. The first is a drum cover but the kid is niiiiiice. Never really heard a drummer cover a song so well since Travis Barker did it...twice. I mean three times. But remember, this time it's a KID. Just to see how nice his is, check out his Viva La Vidacover he did. Dope. The second version was by the band The Fray. They did an acoustic cover while on BBC's Live Lounge Radio 1 show. Also quite dope. I pretty much listened to both of these versions all summer last year but I felt like bringing em back. Check em out.

Been away from the blog for a minute so I figured it's time to get back at it. If you've read this blog before, you might know that I'm a pretty big fan of cover versions of songs and this is one of my favorites. Everybody knows the Luther Vandross song Superstar, but that wasn't even the original version. The original was done by Delanie and Bonnie back in 1969, then done by the Carpenters in 1971 and Luther in 1983 before this version was done in 1994 by the bad Sonic Youth. Pretty different from the original but still dope nonetheless. It was even used in the trailer for the scary as fuck scary movie High Tension and it was used in the movie Juno...for what it's worth. Check it out:
Sonic Youth - Superstar [Cover]
Download: Superstar Pretty unique twist to a classic. And I'm back on this blogging shit.
Ever since Blueprint 3 dropped, I've been amazed with the songs that were sampled for the album. I like them so much that I even put together a mixtape of all of the songs that Jay used. One of the ones that stuck with me was Alphaville's song Forever Young. The first time I actually heard it was back at the dance scene in Napoleon Dynamite. In searching for different versions of Forever Young I came across a great cover by a group called Youth Group. Like many covers, I think it might be even better than the original. Check both of em out and decide for yourself.
Alphaville - Forever Young [1984]
Youth Group - Forever Young [2006]
Two dope versions, but I'm goin with Youth Group.
[Note: The crazy story from Athens and my Brett Favre vs. Packers preview coming soon.]
For me to be such a big fan of the song Close to Me by The Cure, I guess I should at least be a fan of the band. I guess it's just that I like the song because I've heard it covered by at least four different bands, and everytime it's dope. I just heard about a tribute album called Perfect As Cats that's two discs worth of different bands covering classic Cure songs. If I check this joint out, I might actually start to like them. Ow.
Check out the original and two cover versions of the best Cure song of all time, Close to Me.
The Cure - Close To Me (1985)
The Get Up Kids - Close To Me Cover (2001)
Kaki King - Close To Me Cover (2009)
